Religious Education
Following the Mandate of the Gospel to
Evangelize, and according to the Mission of the Catholic Church we
propose the education in the Faith of Children, young people, and adults
by means of Catechesis.
The elements of Catechesis are: the
proclamation of the Gospel; experience of Christian living; Initiation
and celebration of the Sacraments; integration into the ecclesial
community; and apostolic and missionary witness.
Catechesis of children at St. Augustine
encompasses:
Our catechesis, though available to every
child in our Community, especially involves the children attending
schools that do not offer a Catholic education, from Kindergarten to
Fifth grade ages and children of catechetical age not yet initiated in
the Church.
Our schedule of classes, of 75 minutes,
once a week is as follows:
Mondays -Kindergarten, Third,
Fourth and RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children. ) This is an
Initiation Program for children that are seven or older and have not
been baptized. For RCIC please contact our Director of Religious
Education at the Parish Office.
Tuesdays - First Grade, Pre Confirmation and Confirmation.
Wednesday - First Communion Class (Sacramental catechesis).
Confirmation
Thursday - Fifth and Sixth Grades.
Our next course of classes will begin the
week of September 13th, 2003 and registration for the students entering
or returning to our program will take place after the Sunday morning
Masses of August 22 and 29 and Sept. 5th and 12th, 2004.
Attendance is taken at the beginning of
every class and parents are expected to be intimately involved in the
faith-growing process of their children, by regular attendance to Sunday
Mass and active participation of Parish events and meetings.
Our catechists are volunteers, dedicated
to sharing their life of faith with their students and totally committed
to their ministry.
